Charlotte’s 2026 Economic Outlook: Growth Still On — But Slower

The Charlotte Regional Business Alliance just gave us a peek at what 2026 could look like — and the message is clear: we’re not stopping, but we are slowing down.

The report shows the Queen City continuing to grow, but at a gentler pace. Job growth is expected to taper off slightly, and net migration — especially from out-of-state transplants — could dip from the post-2020 boom. At the same time, housing costs continue to rise, outpacing local wage growth and making affordability an increasing concern.

The good news? Charlotte’s key sectors remain strong. From banking to biotech, employers are still expanding. And our educated workforce keeps us competitive nationally. But after years of high-octane development, a natural cooldown could be on the horizon.

For buyers and sellers, this outlook matters. A less frenzied market could mean more breathing room — but it could also mean longer timelines and new pricing dynamics. Watching these trends now gives you the edge when it’s time to make a move.
